It feels unlikely for a 4-koma to have some of the most interesting panelling I have seen in a manga. The second long form comic from the creator of Girls' Last Tour follows the life of a shut-in with mooshrooms growing out of her head befriending a girl with an egg on hers. This is a surreal comedy with an undercurrent of a somber tone. The girls join a club with a menial and pointless central activity, the town is abandoned with massive empty apartment complexes, the older sister of the protagonist seems completely consumed by her bizarre projects.
There is a lot to love about this manga. Personally it reminds me a lot of the Italian post-modernist author Italo Calvino, for reasons that do not become apartments until the story develops. But without spoiling anything, this is one of smartest manga you will find. The down to earth setting is disturbed by the magical realism inherent in a gag manga, such as the aforementioned objects on characters heads. Another important aspect of the story is the yuri, what begins a Majime making jokes about marrying out protagonist never truly leave the story. This is fundamentally a story concerning the developing friendship between those two, although the entire cast is comedic and wonderfully written.
As this is the same author as Girls' Last Tour do expect the emotional moments of this story to hit you hard. The Larger cast allows the author to squeeze tears out of the reader with much greater freedom. While I would recommend reading that other manga first, neither are particularly long, this is a perfectly fine story to jump into without knowing anything. One of my absolute favorite comics ever made.
