Perhaps my favorite pure lesbian romance, perhaps even any romance in general. Not many stories managed to keep me as emotionally captivated as this one. I was reading the first few volumes on a long break between my lectures, captivated by the wonderful art, chemistry of the characters, and unabashedness with which the manga discusses mature topics surrounding relationships. And then the pivotal moment of the first half of the manga hit me. I am not going to make myself look cooler than I am and admit I went crying to the bathroom. Perhaps I was more emotional than usual that day, or projecting myself onto the two leads with my girlfriend made me more invested in the story than usual, but either way I almost stopped reading it then and there. I did come back to it, and the story somehow only got better.
This manga tells a story about a group of adult collage students, some of which form a band together. and I do not intend to put down yuri set in highschool, I love me some fluff, however the setting is what sold me on this manga originally. The characters have to struggle with coming out in a realistic depiction of queer life, they have sexual desires, future aspirations, and they go out drinking. And as already established it tackles issues relating to all of the above with incredible care. And again, I really appreciate the treatment of queerness in the manga. The small elements like the depiction of internalised homophobia, coming out to parents, or depiction of the broader varieties of queer communities all combine into a really well crafted whole.
And the protagonists embody bouba and kiki, what's not to love.
